OH MY GOSH
water bowl stand
isn't this the cutest water bowl stand for our dogs?
I love the little drawer below. .jpg)
back in 2005 when we were remodeling our house, I found this sink I wanted to have in our "kids" bath. well, we ended up only living in that house for 6 months because my husband got a new job an hour away. so we moved. we took back the sink and pedestal stand because it was $375 for the set.
it just so happened that day that the exact same pedestal stand was on clearance for $10 because it was a floor model. that is right-$10. in perfect condition. I had to buy it. I knew I would be able to find the sink on ebay one day. when we remodeled our bathroom a few months ago I wanted to put this sink in. my husband and his friend said NO! they'd have to re plumb and cut into the wall and well, we are moving AGAIN! one day, anyway. so this has been sitting in our laundry room as a junk stand. tonight we cleaned our laundry room because we received a new w&d (thanks, mh) to replace my old washer since it will no longer dye my tiny sprouts clothing. I then had the idea to take it inside to use as the dogs water bowl stand in the breakfast room. so I unscrewed the legs that would hold the sink and put a cute towel over the top to cover it.
this was the longest post. sorry! but I had to tell the history of it!

fall festival
this evening I was invited to participate in a fall festival at my friend's house. it was friends of friends of friends and people came and setup tables to display their goods. I took a few pictures as this was the only thing I have ever done like this. .jpg)
I could so have a store and have it decorated all vintagy. I'd have 105.5 wduv (the dove) playing in my store. it is oldie music. love it. and at my cash register I would have these sitting.jpg)
my swil's handmade cards.
thanks jen and heather for coming out to support me!
it gives me chills
I love reading nie nie dialogues. they started re-posting stephanie's previous posts. this one gave me chills. I love her number 3 blessing, "The children enjoying a little good old fashion over-the-fence friendship with Kate."
is this not the sweetest ever picture?
and then this quote she had previously listed.
"Author Anna Quindlen reminds us not to rush past the fleeting moments.{or if I could enter here-the basket-head mother syndrome} She said: “The biggest mistake I made [as a parent] is the one that most of us make. . . . I did not live in the moment enough. This is particularly clear now that the moment is gone, captured only in photographs. There is one picture of [my three children] sitting in the grass on a quilt in the shadow of the swing set on a summer day, ages six, four, and one. And I wish I could remember what we ate, and what we talked about, and how they sounded, and how they looked when they slept that night. I wish I had not been in such a hurry to get on to the next thing: dinner, bath, book, bed. I wish I had treasured the doing a little more and the getting it done a little less”(Loud and Clear [2004], 10–11).
I don't know stephanie, but she is just an amazing person.
read her blog and you will see. I pray for her and her family.

BABY ITCH
how can one not have MAJOR baby itch after seeing this?
I love those long johns and that little baby!
jen from rosie toesies our time has to be soon!
pb holiday catalog
do remember back in the day when pottery barn used to have a holiday bedding set each year for adults? I remember in 2001 I purchased 2 shams on clearance. I wanted to wait until the next year when they came out with something else. I don't think they had one since. I may be wrong on the actual year but I know in the past few years they haven't. I received my holiday catalog a few days ago and there is a winter bedding set that is pretty cute.
how can you go wrong with a cranberry bird?
when I was in college I used to go to tj maxx weekly. I was dedicated. one day when I was there I saw TWO holiday quilts that were from pottery barn. TWO. what did I do? I bought ONE. one for my sister. I remember thinking, I know I am going to regret not purchasing this king quilt for $35.
what was I thinking? why didn't I buy it? every year when I see my sister's quilt on her bed I want to kick myself.

"dream homes"
tonight while looking through cds of old pictures I came across a folder titled "dream homes". these pictures were taken in 2004 while driving by them and happening to have my camera. I remember the day I saw this house. I made my then "boyfriend" stop so we could get out & look. he thought I was crazy. .jpg)
we went in this house and I was in LOVE. there is just something about an older home. the character and charm. while standing in the living room I said, can we buy it? bry said, do you see how the roof is sloping down? that means the foundation is not sound. I said, who cares, we can fix it! as I was staring at HUGE rosettes. the biggest I had ever seen. .jpg)
I will say I was nervous to go upstairs as the stairs were not sturdy. but I made it and when I got up there I just imagined the life that had once been lived in this house. .jpg)
someone built this house for their family long ago. I can imagine it. how many holidays were spent in the house together. how this house survived the great depression and many presidents. the kitchen was on the back of the house and had a screen door. I imagined hanging laundry out on the line. orange trees were everywhere and land was ALL around us. this is not common for the area it was in..jpg)
I went home and researched the history of the house. I found out it was about to be restored and become a historic home and tours would be given. I was sad I couldn't buy it but was so happy that the house would always be there. that people could go and find out the history of the area that is now fully congested with cookie-cutter houses that are built on top of one another. there is very little history left in this part of the city. the road the house was on was named for L.E. Mobley, a son of William L. Mobley and his first wife, Sophonia Mobley. He and his family lived in a two-story wood frame house on the south side of the road near Lake Maurine Drive. William L. Mobley, who moved from North Carolina in 1860 with his wife, Cornelia Ann, and their family and slaves. At first, he located near the Gulf of Mexico, but feared the slaves would escape across the water. He then moved inland to this area. When the slaves were freed, he gave them land along this road east of Gunn Hwy.
The Keystone United Methodist Church had its beginning in Mobley's home. Settlers would come to the house when circuit riders stopped by..jpg)
literally days later the house had burned to the ground. I then found out from the newspaper article that the land was owned by a prestigious golf course. hmmm, I wonder who started that fire?
I am so glad I had my camera that day. I remember not bringing it inside because there was a "NO TRESPASSING" sign on the house and I was scared to go in. I sure wish I would have now.

house of the week
I am pretty much obsessed at looking at older homes in indianapolis. they have a ton to choose from so I am always looking to see how people have restored these homes. this house below is beautiful. though the kitchen is not how I'd do it or the added carpet, it is a house I can imagine raising a family in. I am crazy for the basement with exposed brick and the bathrooms are beautiful. I think what I love most are the back-to-back fireplaces as you enter. can you imagine at christmas time having a fire going as guests entered? and a tree by the stairwell? oh, and I also love all the original woodwork, doors and windows.

i must have this purse
I have been looking for a purse for a LONG time to replace my beloved chocolate purse from my sister. she had it for a few years before she gave it to me. it has holes in it now but I can't part with it because I have not found a replacement. UNTIL NOW.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this purse and fabric. I found it on etsy (of course) from JENNA LOU. I purchased a wallet from her a few years back and loved her work. one of the things I remember from my order(s) with her is that she always hand-writes me a note. I love those touches!

missing him

I woke up this morning missing my dad a lot. I didn't even tell my husband because I didn't want to cry. I really wanted to go to my dad's this morning and sit in his kitchen and drink a cup of coffee together. my dad makes the best coffee. it is always REALLY hot and always to the tip top of the mug. I always love hearing the pitter patter of his feet on the floor because he never has socks on. soon, soon, I tell myself, we will be in indianapolis and I can run to my dad's for a cup of coffee on sunday mornings!

1835 house
I am not sure I have ever seen a house this old. of course, I love it.
the hardin house has been documented in court records as of 1835 and is considered to be of east coast design with touches of greek revival. the "hardin house" is amongst the oldest surviving residences in indianapolis.
fireplace and a sunroom
the "library"
lots of light and built-ins
crazy for this built-in
look at that front door!
and a master bedroom with a fireplace?!
refinished master bath. really nice but maybe too much tile?
I love older homes

decision
I finally made the decision. after much thought, I decided to keep my originality and continue hand-dyeing my clothes.
it takes more time but in the end I feel that it keeps me unique. in a world where people have no shame in copying your every design and business, this will keep me, well, me. tiny sprouts.
THE ORIGINAL!
and my gift wrap is one of my favorite parts. I love to make something so special so when that person receives it in the mail it will immediately make them smile!
thank you to all of my loyal customers! I appreciate you all so very much and the encouraging emails!
in remembrance
Photos © AP or Reuters
in remembrance of the 2,976 people who lost their lives that day. and remembering all the families missing those.
those images will always be in my memory. where I was. that night watching it on television and my dad crying and having to leave the room. the sadness I felt watching as people lined the streets with posters asking if you had seen their loved ones. and if so, the number to call.
it is all very, very sad.

and though our country seems torn these days,
this is something we all stand united on.

I love these two men
to dye or not to dye?

(my first tiny sprouts hand-dyed colors picture that I took on a picnic bench when we lived at the beach.)
whenever I started tiny sprouts I started with plain white. I remember having a table at a charity event and someone said, where are your colors? I remembered being annoyed because I had made a bunch of samples with different threads and thought that was color enough (can you tell I am bland?). then I started wanting to add colors but the thought of how many to buy in what color gave me a bit of anxiety. so one afternoon my bil said, why don't you just dye your clothes, it has to be easy. I felt like that was my push of encouragement and I ordered a slew of dyes. it was fun and I loved creating my own colors. initially powder (blue) was easy. lately, it just won't work right. the dye seems to disappear as soon as I add it to the washer. so instead of being able to embroider all day, I stand at the washing machine and swear at it.
so this is my thought. should I buy powder (blue) already dyed from the manufacturer? I feel like it would be getting rid of my hand-dyed uniqueness but I sometimes think people don't even know I dye my own clothes.
I think about how it would be simpler and I wouldn't be stressed about dye spots or my washer not working right. I would still be dyeing every other color, just not powder. am I a sellout?

vintage quilts
I am a huge quilt lover. for our one-year-anniversary my husband bought me a vintage quilt. it is my favorite. this is my new favorite for a baby nursery by
NETTIE PETE HANDMADE
and this one
I am crazy for the fabrics she uses.
they are modern yet vintagey. love her quilts!
charlie's soap
we have been buying a HUGE eco-friendly laundry detergent from costco for a few years now. it is so heavy when you first buy it and lately I have just hated how much plastic it is. we are really trying to avoid as much plastic in our household as we can. I am planning on trying this new laundry detergent that comes in a KRAFT BAG!
how laura ingalls is that? I have never really liked the powder detergent as it reminds me of cat litter but this is just too cute to pass up. it received really great reviews from cottage living, I think? or was it this old house?
